How to Ride an Electric Bike Safely: 5 Ebike Safety Tips

How to Ride an Electric Bike Safely

There are 5 tips you need to know for a safety ride.

1. Wear a Helmet

The first safety tip when riding an ebike is to wear a helmet. Electric bikes are not like traditional bicycles, they can reach much higher speeds with the electric pedal assist or without pedal assist. That's why helmets are even more important. The Velowave Ranger Ebike can reach speeds of up to 28+ mph with the pedal assist on flat ground, so having a helmet in an unfortunate accident at that speed is crucial for your safety.

“Think of bicycles as rideable art that can just about save the world.”

-Grant Petersen

2. Speed up Your Ebike Slowly

Electric bikes are motor driven. You can speed them up by throttle. Velowave Ranger ebike has a thumb throttle. Just a slight press, your ebike will speed up. Please start your motor from a light press, make sure you are good with the speed then press it deeper slowly and speed up your bike slowly.

3. Watch Your Speed

Similar to the above tip, but it's very important to mention it again. The next tip, especially for beginning ebike riders, is to watch your speed. Ebikes are designed to assist riders in their pedaling, but these bikes can get up to high speeds fairly easily on flat ground that most regular bike riders may not be accustomed to. The top speed from the pedal assistance on the Velowave Ranger FMTB3 Fat Tire Electric Mountain Bike is 28 mph, which is faster than most regular bikes can go even on steep downhills. Ease into getting up to these top speeds until after you are comfortable on the bike.

4. Be Aware of the Mileage Range

Next, you will want to make sure that you have a good sense of the range of your electric pedal assist. The last thing you want is to be stuck a long way from your destination with no battery life. The mileage range of the Velowave Ranger Ebike is 25-40+ miles with a full charge depending on your riding style. Make sure that your ride won’t put you at risk of being left dozens of miles from where you need to be with a dead battery.

5. Pre-ride Checklist

The final tip is to go through a pre-ride checklist. This should consist of checking that the wheels and tires are secured and inflated properly, making certain you have all of your gear, and that the ebike technology is working properly. The Velowave Ranger Electric Mountain Bike has a multifunctional TFT color display and a 48V/15AH LG lithium battery, but neither of those are any good to you if they are not working properly, or if the battery doesn’t have enough charge and/or is not attached accurately.
